They also need to be able to easily access reference material. Some engineers need to solder.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Equipment at the workstation<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">, in racks, on special shelves, etc. With appropriate power and connection.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Work surfaces for the job<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">, such as lab-level bench, space for two computers, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Sufficient storage<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00c2\u00a0as appropriate for the job.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Local storage for immediate access.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Other accessible storage for longer-term items.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Ergonomic considerations taken into account.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Secure equipment<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">, either at workstation or nearby storage.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Transport at hand\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">as needed, such as trolley that stores under the workbench.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Appropriately flexible phone system<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">, eg. with wireless headset to allow talking with customers whilst walking to equipment.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><a name=\"com\"><\/a>The community and team experience<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"NormalNonindent\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Although many field are in and out, they still feel a sense of community. Some people work alone and feel a sense of isolation.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Create a sense of identity<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"NormalNonindent\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201d\u00a6for individuals, workgroups and visitors.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Distinct color scheme and lighting effects\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">that enables immediate identification.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Transition at boundaries\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">that signifies movement into the identified area and gives a sense of arrival.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Zones\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">within overall workspace that enclose and identify groups and shared areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Ability to personalize\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">individual and group spaces.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">People magnets<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00c2\u00a0which draw diverse people together to share information and socialize.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Eg. coffee bars at copy centers with information and connectivity.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Visual connection with others<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">, for example lower partitions to allow people to see one another. Balanced with height for zoning and perceived privacy.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Enable shared activity<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"NormalNonindent\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201d\u00a6within teams and the field.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Team meeting spaces\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">close to their individual workstations.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Individual meeting space\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">at workstation only for those with specific needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Larger meeting rooms<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00c2\u00a0for group get-togethers.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Noise minimization\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">between the sounds of talking and those who have a need for quiet.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Private space<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00c2\u00a0where confidential conversations can be held.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoListBullet\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Social space<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00c2\u00a0that allows serendipitous, chance conversation.
